Mbarak HusseinAlbuquerque, NM Date of Birth: 04/04/1965 (Kapsabet, Kenya) PERSONAL BEST: 2.08.10 (Seoul Marathon, S. Korea) WORLD MAJOR HIGHLIGHTS:2007 USA National Team Member, World Championships, Osaka Japan. 2005 National Marathon Champion, (Twin Cities, MN) 2006 National Marathon Champion, (Twin Cities, MN) 1998, 2001 &2002 Winner of Honolulu Marathon. CAREER NOTES: The younger brother of Ibrahim Hussein, who is a three-time winner of the Boston Marathon and the event’s first champion from Africa, Mbarak Hussein’s best finish at the Patriot’s Day classic came in 2002 when he placed fourth after finishing fifth in 2001. He is the two-time defending U.S. marathon national champion and set two U.S. Master’s records in 2005 by running the half marathon at the Philadelphia Distance Run in 1 hour, 3 minutes, and 23 seconds and the 25 K at the Fifth Third River Bank Run in 1 hour, 17 minutes, and 12 seconds. Despite all of his success, perhaps his most impressive accomplishment came at the Lilac Bloomsday Run in Spokane, Washington on May 6th 2008. That morning Hussein set both a Master’s U.S. and world record in the 12 km with a time of 36 minutes and 6 seconds. Formerly a middle distance specialist, Hussein was an NJCAA champion in cross country as well as in both the 800 and the 1,500 meters for South Plains Junior College; later, he also won national titles in the 800 and 1,500 while at Lubbock Christian University, an NAIA school. He spent the better part of 2008 and 2009 as the National Distance coach at the UAE. He is currently ranked as the top Masters Distance runner, were he has won several masters races including the 2010 Master Marathon Championships. PERSONAL NOTES:A resident of Albuquerque, N.M. since 1987, Hussein took the U.S. citizenship oath in 2004. He is self coached and has been influential in organizing running groups in the greater Albuquerque.

I live and train in Santa Fe, NM (7,000ft). I am extremely proud to be able to be an American and to have the opportunity to possible compete for a future National Team spot. Aside from my running I am involved in Camp Marafiki, an annual running camp for people of all ages in Santa Fe, NM. I am a camp counselor and assist the campers with all aspects of running from training to nutrition. I take pride in helping others fulfill their running goals.
